Requirements to become a Lifeguard with Surf Lagoon

·         Must be 16 years of age at time of hire

·         Monday-Sunday Open Availability

·         Must be able to interact with general public in a friendly and respectful manner

·         Must be capable of enforcing park rules consistently and constantly

·         Must be responsible, mature, and a team player

·         Must posses the ability to ensure guest safety, quickly respond to life-threatening or non-life threatening emergencies

·         Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods outside

·         Must physically be able to complete or have completed a Nationally recognized Lifeguard training. If you will not be taking our offered Red Cross Lifeguard training, your current certificate must not expire before September 2017


Job Description

·         Ensure Guest safety

·         Enforce park rules

·         Respond to guest accident, incidents, or emergencies

·         Administer CPR/First Aid/AED as needed

·         Maintain all Lifeguard equipment

·         Maintain cleanliness of park and all attractions/ in water and on deck

·         Complete daily opening and closing procedures which includes; bathroom cleaning, deck/pool scrubbing, trash pick up and take out.


Lifeguard Training Prerequisite :

  1. Must complete the prerequisite successfully to be able to continue with lifeguard course.
  2. Swim 300 yards continuously demonstrating breath control and rhythmic breathing. Candidates may swim using the front crawl, breaststroke or a combination of both but swimming on the back or side is not allowed. Swim goggles may be used.
  3. Tread water for 2 minutes using only the legs. Candidates should place their hands under the armpits.
  4. Complete a timed event within 1 minute, 40 seconds.
    • Starting in the water, swim 20 yards. The face may be in or out of the water. Swim goggles are not allowed.
    • Surface dive, feet-first or head-first, to a depth of 7 to 10 feet to retrieve a 10-pound object.
    • Return to the surface and swim 20 yards to return to the starting point with both hands holding the object and keeping the face at or near the surface so they are able to get a breath. Candidates should not swim the distance under water.
    • Exit the water without using a ladder or steps.
